The event formatThere are 18 events every year. Every school sends a team of up to 20 kids. Each event can have 2 to 3 kids (varies by event). Look at the event page for details. Students practice for the event they pick.
There are 3 categories of events - Build, Do and Study. The Build events involve building a model to take to the event. Examples water rocket and straw egg drop. The event itself will involve demonstrating the model to solve the STEM Challenge. Do - This will involve using provided material to build a model at the event. Bridge/ Barge Building are examples. Kids will need to practice building the models at home with similar material. Challenge will involve completion within a given time and testing the strength/ durability of the model you build. Study - Study for a test of your abilities in a variety of science topics. Like No Bones about it or Starry, Starry Night. Topics and study materials/ links are in the respective event pages. The test itself may involve viewing models and naming them or answering questions on the topic. |
